also known as Amman Citadel Inscription
TM Gallery info The Amman Citadel Inscription (TM 865189) is one of the oldest (ca. 800 BC) inscriptions in Ammonite. This is considered by many linguists a dialect of Hebrew, but some classify it as a separate language, spoken by the Ammonite people in Jordan. Because of its fragmentary nature its contents are unclear, although it may be a building inscription. The text was discovered in 1961 in the citadel of Amman, and is now preserved in the archaeological museum there.
