TM Arch id: 364
Protagonist: Panas (Go to TM People)
Description: Panas, son of Pechytes, was a choachyte-priest in the Memnoneia. His archive is linked with the archive of Osoroeris, son of Horos (TM ArchID 50), another member of his family. Choachytes were libation pourers to whom the deceased bodies were entrusted; they were also responsible for food offerings. The archive belonged to Pechytes and his son Panas. The latter inherited, unexpectedly, the documents instead of Pechytes’ oldest son Pasemis. The archive contains papers related to inheritances and also papers related to the Theban house, subject of the Hermias-trial, in which the Greek Hermias claimed the house that belonged to the choachytes. In Hermias’ view, the house had belonged to his deceased father Ptolemaios. The archive also contains papers deposited by relatives of Pechytes and Panas. At last the archive also contains some problematic documents because they are rather expected to belong to other choachyte families.
