TM Arch id: 587
Protagonist: Ephonychos alias Apathes (Go to TM People)
Description: Archive of Greek tax receipts issued to Eponychos alias Apathes (AD 112-150), while his father and son Archias are attested once as taxpayer. Eponychos and his family paid their taxes on the Theban East bank, where they may have owned grain land. The payment of a mill tax probably attested in four receipts may suggest they were involved in the miller business. Most receipts of Eponychos and his family are for personal taxes: the laographia or poll tax, and a number of contributions for the upkeep of public services including the dyke, bath, temple bath, watch-tower, guard and river-guard tax. Other charges are on property (grain land), for which harvest taxes had to be paid, and probably on Eponychos’ profession as miller.
