History

The biblical papyri of the Chester Beatty collection were bought in Egypt in 1930, at the same time as the Bodmer papyri and probably belong to the same find from Dishna, near Nag Hammadi (cf. J. Robinson, The First Christian Monastic Library, Coptic Studies. Acts of the Third International Congress of Coptic Studies. Warsaw, 20-25 August, 1984 (Varsovie, 1990) pp. 371-378).

At a later stage Chester Beatty also bought the collection of W. Merton.
