Plaque of Demfeld

The Plaque of Demfeld (TM 654554 ) is one of only a few hundred inscriptions in Raetic, a language cognate to Etruscan and thus still very hard to understand. It has been suggested that it is a dedication, although there is disagreement about its precise translation. The closest parallels to this type of plaque are Etruscan and Venetic, however, of which the latter is perhaps not surprising in view of where it was found: in Deml (Ampass), north of the Veneto. The object is now preserved at the University in Innsbruck.
