Hunterston Brooch

The Hunterston Brooch (TM 869403 ) is a brooch made of gold, silver and amber, dated around AD 700. It was found in the 1820ies or 30ies, and is currently in the National Museums of Scotland. In all likelihood part of a treasure, the brooch was an object of status loaded with Christian symbolism.
The brooch has a short 'Younger Futhark' Runic inscription stating it was owned by a woman called Melbrigda, which may be up to a few centuries younger.
