Pyrgi Tablet C

Pyrgi Tablet C (TM 860629 ) is one of a set of three golden lamellae, the so-called Pyrgi Tablets, which relate to the dedication of a sanctuary to the Phoenician Goddess Astarte by an Etruscan ruler. They were found in 1964 during excavations and are now in the Etruscan Museum in Rome. The holes in the tablets have been interpreted as the result of nailing the texts to the wood of the temple.
Pyrgi Tablet C (the left one in the photograph) is the only one in Phoenician and can therefore be translated. As the Etruscan texts of the two other lamella seem to be complementary to this Phoenician text rather than a direct translation, their interpretation is still uncertain.
